PIET HEIN

Piet Hein (1905-1996) was a Danish scientist, mathematician, inventor, artist, designer, philosopher and poet. A member of the Resistance during the Nazi occupation, he was especially recognised for his short philosophical poems which he called grooks.

Apart from his most prominent facets as a scientist, poet and designer, Hein was the inventor of various games which have become emblematic, like the Soma cube of 1936, a geometric puzzle formed by cubic pieces that combine to form a larger cube. He also conceived the games of Con-Tac-Tix and Polytaire, which are displayed in this area, and also Pyramystery and Qrazy Qube. Along with Theodor Skjøde Knudsen he also participated in the design of many other games, some of which can also be seen here.
