Puzzles are very attractive brain games because they pose a difficult challenge, problem or riddle that tests our skill, perseverance, agility, intelligence and inventiveness. Transcending the role of mere entertainment, puzzles have a mathematical conception and develop the sense of spatial representation. Overcoming the challenge creates a momentary sensation of pleasure and satisfaction.
This area displays a selection from the collection of puzzles given to the Museum in 1998 by the industrial engineer Francesc Castanyer Figueras. For many years Castanyer built up a rich and extensive collection of puzzles characterised by having to be solved through the application of algorithms.
