MECCANO

This section displays the most innovative toy at the beginning of the 20th century – the Meccano set. With this toy, anyone could practice mechanics. Here, visitors can imagine and comprehend the huge change brought about by its appearance as a teaching model. Thanks to Meccano, industrial-age construction games had their moment of glory and inspired a passion for building.

This construction game, which was created in Liverpool, England, in 1901, allowed children to construct all kinds of machinery, vehicles and buildings using nuts and bolts, giving them an appearance worthy of Jules Verne’s dreams. Although these sets were exported from Liverpool all over the world, Novedades Poch and Juguetes Palouzié began producing them in Barcelona in 1923.

In addition to a wide variety of models, this section also displays an interesting sheet for printing the catalogue of constructions possible with the Meccano No.1 set, a selection of Meccano motors and some of the equipment that was shipped in from Liverpool for its production in Barcelona.
